New distribution agreement signed between tebu-bio and Smartox Biotechnology
Smartox is pleased to announce its recent partnership with tebu bio. Researchers across Europe are now able to access Smartox Biotechnology’s product portfolio through tebu-bio’s pan-European network of offices.

Smartox Biotechnology (La Tronche, France) specializes in the production of synthetic peptides originating from venomous animals such as spiders, cone snails and scorpions. Venomous toxins are known to selectively inhibit or activate ion channels and can therefore be used as molecular tools to modulate their function. “Ion channels are important therapeutic targets in drug discovery, as ion channel dysfunction can lead to a variety of patho-physiological effects”, stated Michel de Waard, Scientific Manager of Smartox Biotechnology. The Ion channel research carried out by Professor Dewaard at the University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, led him to develop important know-how relating to the production and characterization of peptide toxins, research which ultimately led to the creation of Smartox.
The deal between these two organizations came about as a result of the obvious synergy between the two different organization’s core businesses. “We are really excited about our new partnership with tebu-bio” stated Remy Beroud, leader of Smartox Biotechnology. “The last two years has seen a period of intense growth for Smartox with turnover increasing exponentially and the number of countries we sell to rising to 20. Most importantly of all, we have seen a customer retention rate of over 60%.
